The Auburn-Lewiston YMCA provides two child care programs, one here at our Turner Street location and also one on the St. Mary's campus, Daisy Garden. Both centers are licensed by the state of Maine and both are nationally
accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).
Child Care Receives NAEYC Accreditation
The Auburn-Lewiston YMCA and their Daisy Garden Child Care
Center (located at St. Mary’s Hospital in Lewiston) recently
received a letter from the National Association for the
Education of Young Children (NAEYC), congratulating them for
achieving accreditation once again!
The YMCA Child Care Program received NAEYC accreditation after a
site visit by NAEYC assessors to ensure that the program meets
each of the 10 Program Standards. NAEYC has criteria in 10
Program Standard areas, and the Y scored 100% in 7 of the 10
areas, passed all the required criteria, and met all candidacy
requirements.
“We're proud to have earned this mark of quality from NAEYC, and
to be recognized for our commitment to reaching the highest
professional standards. To earn NAEYC accreditation the
directors and staff went through an extensive self-study
process, measuring the program and its services against the 10
NAEYC Early Childhood Program Standards and more then 400
related accreditation criteria “ said Lisa Anctil – YMCA Child
Care Director. “There are only three centers in Androscoggin
country accredited under the new system of standards”.
In the 23 years since NAEYC accreditation was established, it
has become a widely recognized sign of high quality early
childhood education. Approximately 8% of all preschools and
other early childhood program are currently accredited nation
wide. The YMCA and Daisy Garden's NAEYC accreditation is a sign
that the Y a leader in a national effort to invest in
high-quality early childhood education, and to help give all
children a better start.
The Y offers Full Day Child Care (6 weeks to 5 years of age), as
well as Before & After School Care (grades 1-6), Monday thru
Friday 6:00am-6:00pm. YMCA Child Care is based on a
developmental philosophy, believing that children learn best
through hands-on experiences. Children are accepted for where
they are at in all stages of their development, are encouraged
to develop at their own rate, and are given activities to
challenge and to increase their developmental skills.
NAEYC Accreditation – The Right Choice for Kids helps
families to understand the benefits of NAEYC-Accredited
Programs.
